Hurricane Barry - A reminder that Hurricane Season is here.
/Hurricane Barry was officially the first storm of the 2019 Hurricane Season. Hurricane Barry made landfall on the morning of July 13th as a Category 1 hurricane off the coast of Louisiana. This is the first named storm of the season, which brought tremendous amounts of rainfall, flooding, and wind damage across multiple regions of the coast.
Barry only remained a category 1 hurricane for a short time, as it quickly weakened to a still-powerful tropical storm several hours later. The storm prompted mandatory evacuations as it moved inland with 70-mph winds on Saturday, and resulted in tornado threats, blocked-off roadways, and overtopped levees as it triggered a significant flood threat across the lower Mississippi Valley.
The Houston area dodged a major bullet with Hurricane Barry, as we saw only minimal rainfall due to this powerful storm, yet this should be a warning sign for the remainder of the season. All essential organizations and personnel should heed warning of this storm and prepare for any future events that may have a more central effect for the remainder of the lengthy hurricane season.
Reentry and ride-out procedures should be a point of emphasis when preparing for storms and events that may effect your organizations daily operations. To learn more on how to better prepare and receive your 2019 ride out/reentry credentials please visit https://reentry.truentry.net/Storefront.
